WHY?
Cause being sixteen means you are no longer a kid and fortunately you are not an adult either. It means that amazing mix of freedom and responsibility. People actually listen to you when you talk and value your opinion and yet you can still get away with the puppy dog look if you play your cards right....;).
The day I turned sixteen I woke up feeling great. It was just one of those days that nothing could go wrong. Not even the fact that I had my commerce exam the next day. It was just one of those days that I knew I was gonna love no matter what. One of the first people who called to wish me asked me how it felt to finally be sixteen and I replied very honestly and promptly that it felt great. But some time later thinking about it I realised that there was more to that question than just a simple answer. I read somewhere that when your sixteen your also fifteen, fourteen.....ten, nine....and one.Its true. There are times when every bit emerges that's what makes you such a complete person. Your memories and experiences never die they only serve to make you stronger. So I thought about it and here's some of what I think I learnt ...though some of it is admittedly nonsensical
- Hard work and passion are irreplaceable and usually yields good results.
- First impressions matter but its what you do with them that make the difference.
- Chocolate and pretty much all other food tastes disgusting just after you've brushed your teeth.
- Trust takes years to build and seconds to break.
- Teddy bears and hugs are eternal.
- You never know what you have until you've lost it.
- Just because you talk long and loud doesn't mean people have to listen to you.
- Words can and do hurt more then anything else. And you cant take them back.
- People can have problems and they can have solutions but the ones with all the solutions usually have their share of problems too.
- There are people other then dysfunctional celebs that have issues.
- You never really know the people you love and that's the beauty of it.
- Memories last forever specially the good ones.
- Proverbs and cliches can contradict each other but sometimes they make sense.
- There are other ways too solve problems then screaming and sulking.
- Reading too much into simple things screws everything up.
Being a year older means starting afresh. But it doesn't make all your previous years go away. Wisdom doesn't actually come with age it comes with experience. Being sixteen opens up a whole new world but it doesn't shut out the old one.

world beware!!
dude d whole 'u go thru d ages 1-15 again n dat its still inside is so true....
Wow.. Thats a lot of thought, especially on a birthday when all I can think of is Cakes and Kicks and gifts! :)
The post makes a lot of sense Dhiya, it really does! Made me think so much, that I am regretting not being 16 now.. lol.. I'm quite far off from 16! Jeez! Prolly I'll write a post too, on how I feel when I turned 23 :) One small difference wud be that if I were to give the 'puppy dog' looks, it wud be reciprocated by a growling 'not-so-puppy' dog look.. lol :)) 16 was fun alright!
The points u have listed, sooo true they are! Well yes, most of them are proverbs n stuff that wise men said long back, but we seldom keep em in our head do we! Its nice to remind ourselves of these small truths in life!
Really loved the post dhiya.. Nice work. Especially the points u listed - brought back a lot of memories!
If I write any more, my comment might become longer than ur post. Which is not good.. lol.. Wish u a wonderful 16! Have a good one!
dear dk, uv just got into 16 and into the toughest academic year of ur life...everyones gonna be eating ur head....so dont let urself go so freely, u'll end up either feeling caged n chained or lik me u'll turn into a rebel... u have listed out many mistakes uv found in urself yet im sure u'd commit some of them again...lik the chocolate one, im sure if i flood ur room with ur fav chocolates ud take a quick bite no matter what time it is...the same way u said about digging deep into simple things... dont analise the matter so much, 16 comes only once, enjoy it but only as much as u shud... dont giv space to think about what ur doing or why, do what u shud and let the rest take its course meanwhile u spend tht time chillin...its the best way to spend this most fun yet important year... i lost myself thru 16....dont make tht mistake.... and dont think too hard either...i feel its destiny tht makes things happen, its only ur role to pray to make sure u stay onto the right path, its only those who choose not to follw destiny tht have the chances to ruin themselves and others....i felt i was so stubborn to believe this tht i had to loose my whole year, then find myself again and realise tht i have a new and better chance at doing what i was supposed to do...think, the fact tht reinforces my statement on destiny is: animals, nature...i see no murder no pollution, no crime, no detruction and no imbalance. they do what they have to, its only us, the beings equipped with the power to think for ourselves, the 6th sense, tht have the mind to wrong, torture, murder, lie, destroy, and kill ourselves along with our children and our lovely marvellous planet... see the similarities??? if u need inspiration to do the right thing, look into the eyes of an animal being killed for us, wether its thru the comp or whatever, u'll hear a brother or sister cry to you asking you why... dont think, u kno whats the right thing to do, just do it, lovely things will follow in course ot time...faith and love... peace out chill and cheers to u being 16...later
...it's like the 10th boards..ur academic record till then seems to be condensed into this one little average of marks..on one hand, it doesn't matter..on the other..it simply means the world to u..we like havin landmarks in our lives...loads of them and the more landmarks we have, the more we feel we have accomplished..!..i think turnin 16 has nothin to do with 'turnin 16'..it's more of a tribute to the past years of your life which u should cherish..and to say..."this is just the beginning.."
whoa! i've been meaning to leave a comment when i read this for the first time, but now's when i actually sat and wrote it.. brilliant post! i really didn't know i'd learnt so much myself when i became 16, or for that matter, 17!
oh.. and happy birthday! i still rem that i forgot to wish you that day.. well i did, but was unpardonably late, so let the record show that i did indeed say happy birthday :)
cheers!
